Our West Ethics team secured 2nd out of 18 schools from across NH, Massachusetts, and Vermont, in today’s Regional Ethics Bowl! The team went undefeated for their first four matches until falling just short to Goffstown in the championship round.
Today’s team consisted of Deepasha Giri, Emma Rivera-Vega, Lindsey St. Pierre, Nistha Prasai, Okiyanaeh Neptune, Saylor Mylly, and Waad Mohamed.
The conversations had during these competitions are holistic in nature, stretching across subjects. The ethical principles, standpoints, and considerations the students on the team have are shaped by the work done throughout the school. The learning, mentorship, support, and conversations that happen at West High each day are major reasons for our success in this competition. I cannot tell you the number of times I was stopped today by a St. A’s professor, judge, or teachers from the other schools to commend our students on the poise, intelligence, and thoughtful conversations they brought to the competition. Despite the challenges our school and students face, today is evidence of just how great a job we are all doing here at West. So I just wanted to thank you all for everything you do and your commitment to our amazing students.
And of course those students are amazing. The bulk of today’s success should be attributed to them. They are all so smart and hard working but, more importantly to me, so great at supporting each other and respecting the perspectives of others. I wish you all could have been there to see just how well they competed and the thought-provoking arguments they crafted. As you can see above, most of them are seniors, with today being a culmination of the hard work and commitment that they have made over these last four years here at West. When you see them next week, make sure to congratulate them!
Andrew, Norah, Richella, and the West High Ethics Team
