MANCHESTER – Interested in switching to a teaching career? The Manchester Excels program might be a perfect fit for you, and no teaching experience is required. The 14-month program lets you earn while you learn, working in Manchester School District while you earn a Master’s degree in secondary education from Southern New Hampshire University. The program is currently enrolling for the next cohort, which starts this June.

Manchester Excels is a partnership between SNHU, Manchester School District, AmeriCorps and Goodwill Northern New England. Students in the program serve a term in AmeriCorps, working as a full-time teacher with supervision and mentoring from a veteran instructor. At the same time, participants take classes on campus at SNHU.

In March as part of AmeriCorps week, U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas visited Memorial High School to get a first-hand look at the program in action. During his visit to Memorial, Rep. Pappas had an opportunity to observe current program participant Zach Gitschier teaching a math class. Later, Gitschier and current Memorial teacher Tanya Larochelle, a graduate of the program, discussed the benefits with Rep. Pappas during a roundtable.

Participants earn a biweekly living allowance and the cost of tuition is supported by AmeriCorps. Manchester Excels is a great opportunity to make an impact in our schools while earning a low-cost master's degree.

With the next cohort starting in June, time is running out to enroll. You can learn more about the program on SNHU's website or by emailing a.campbell5@snhu.edu.
