Track and field state champions pose for a photo with coaches at Board of School Committee meeting

MANCHESTER – With spring sports season starting up, the Board of School Committee took time Monday night to recognize some stars from the winter sports season, specifically indoor track.

Memorial High School's AJ Sebastian won the state title in the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 6.59 and was named to the Indoor All State Track team. He qualified to compete in both the New England Track and Field Championship and the National Indoor Championship. He finished 11th at the New England Track and Field Championship with a time of 6.63 in the 55 Meter Dash and finished his indoor season at the Nike Indoor Nationals where he ran 7.17 for the 60 Meter Dash.

Central High School Junior Harriet Barber – already the spring/outdoor track State Champion in the 400 meter sprint – finished the winter/indoor track season holding the top time in the state for the 300 meter race, and she ran a personal best time in the New England Indoor Track Championships in February in Boston.

Twin brothers Alexis and Alex Rivera of Memorial represented their school well in the long jump at the state championships, with Alexis winning first to take the state title and Alex finishing fourth. This was their first year competing in indoor track.  The brothers were unable to attend Monday's meeting as they're already hard at work preparing for baseball season.

Congratulations to all of our athletes on a great winter season
