Bookmobile ribbon cutting EVENT at Livingston park

The journey of Bookmobile in Manchester started when Wendy Perron, Manchester School District director of English language instruction, came up with the idea of giving free books to the kids -something that's been on her mind since she was a graduate student.

It's Story Telling Time!!

Enthusiasm for reading is exactly what the Manchester Bookmobile will encourage in local kids. A good start to it is story telling. The Bookmobile is staffed by MSD educators, city librarians and other community leaders and volunteers who are willing to help the local kids by participating in the events, like story telling, which helps the kids by making them interested to read the books.

In addition to books, the Bookmobile van is also stocked with resources, such as math kits, which are fun activities and games that encourage math learning. Kids participating in this event learn a lot of new things in a fun way.

The Bookmobile fun sessions

The Bookmobile fun sessions also include a read-aloud. Reading aloud may not only entertain the kids, but it may also develop their vocabulary, improve their ability to learn to read, and perhaps most importantly, foster a lifelong love of books and reading.

The best and the most interesting part of Bookmobile is that every kid who attends the event can choose a book to keep for free! Kids of all ages are encouraged to attend. The city librarians have categorized the books by age group, making it easy for kids to find books they’ll enjoy.

Bookmobile in the National Summer Learning Day Event, held at Gossler Park Elementary School.

The main motive of Bookmobile is to encourage children not to lose focus on learning, especially reading during the summer months. The team of Bookmobile was heartened by the number of kids who showed up from babies to kids all the way up to high schoolers, and also by the support shown from parents. About 80 kids took home books on the very first day, the event started during the last year. So all Manchester children are welcome to attend the events at the bookmobile along with their parents and are encouraged to come more than once to make the event more successful :-)
