Hello! From Mrs. Maturo's Class
Just a reminder parents that I check my email daily so it is a perfect way for you to contact me. bmaturo@mansd.org
It is difficult to believe that April is here! Phew, March was a busy month for all. Science enrichment projects were a huge success! The children did a fantastic job doing the project and presenting it!
What is up and coming? First a quick calendar listing:
April 4 Report cards to be distributed
April 9 Early release and Informer Book Reports due
April 14 A trip to see the Currier Art Gallery
April 21 - 25 Vacation
May 2 Old Yeller Book Report due (I will supply the book)
Our subjects have been keeping us busy. In science, we have started the ecosystem unit. The children are anxious to dissect an owl pellet! We are using the science book, unit D. Many students are having a difficult time in science. I recommend that they take home their books and reread the information that we covered. It is VERY important that they become better at reading content information. They need to know that it is often necessary to read the material more than once to truly comprehend what they are reading.
In Social Studies, we have been studying the American Revolution. We have read a booklet, a small book and used our S.S. book. The children will have written 2 books about the revolution. The purpose was to practice summary writing. It is a great way to check on comprehension of a topic.
In Language, we have been working on improving sentence writing. Prepositional phrases, adjectives and adverbs were stressed in this unit. Some of the writers have even begun to rely on using the thesaurus to expand vocabulary usuage.
In reading, we will begin our From the Prairie to the Sea theme. We will celebrate this theme by having a square dancing day and evening. (This will be on June 5th. Day for students, evening for students and parents, so mark your calendar.)
Spelling words need to be studied. We do have a test every Friday!
Happy April!
Mrs. Maturo
