Weston School Nurse

Mrs. Hunter is the full time nurse for Weston School. As a school nurse, Nurse Hunter provides many important services for students at Weston School. Once such service involves the maintenance of health records. The records are confidential and include immunizations and physical exams and individual health conditions. Parents are asked to send in any updated immunizations and copies of physical exams. Fifth grade students will be required to have a physical exam prior to sixth grade. Parents are encouraged to send in a copy of any physical done after Sept 2007.

Nurse Hunter also administers screenings for vision, hearing, height, weight, and scoliosis (fifth grade students only). Some students have special health care needs during the school day. The school nurse develops an individual plan to address these special needs with the parents and teachers. Sometimes students need to take medication during the school day. The school nurse is able to administer such medications. a physician's written order and parental consent are required for any medication to be taken at school. The school nurse is also available for accidents, medical emergencies, first aid or when a child becomes ill in school.

Parents are encouraged to call the school nurse to report any contagious illness. Please feel free to call if you have any questions or concerns.

School nurses in Manchester public schools are employees of the Manchester Health Department, and are with your children for six hours a day, five days a week. They are an important part of the healthcare delivery systems, and can provide valuable information to you, as parents, and to doctors.
