Guidance Counseling Services

Guidance Counselors help children when there are emotional issues that impact their school day. We work with the children in groups or individually. The counselors also consult with teachers and parents. Please feel free to contact us if we can be of any help to you. Ms. MacInnis would like parents and families of Weston students to know that she checks her email daily, and can be contacted at lmacinnis@mansd.org

Notes from Mrs. MacInnis

Dear Parents

This year the staff will be focusing on the issue of bullying in an approach that hasn’t been used (formally) before at Weston. Typically, in most bullying situations, there are three “players” 1) the bully 2) the target and 3) the bystander. As I’ve gotten into classes, I’ve identified one of the characteristics of a bully: they typically do their bullying when no adult is looking. However, they want an audience (the bystander) so most often the bullying occurs in front of other students. I am identifying a bully as someone who tries to make someone else feel badly about themselves or deliberately hurts another child. Our work this year will be to empower the bystanders to always tell an adult when they see or experience bullying. No child should be expected to deal alone with a bully – the issue always needs adult intervention. I look forward to working with all of your children!

FUEL ASSISTANCE
In this time of economic uncertainty, many families are finding their financial resources stretched to the limit. For any family who may need it, the state of New Hampshire offers a Fuel Assistance and Weatherization program. Eligibility is based on gross household income, the number of people in the household, and the burden of heating costs on your income. Such eligibility can usually be determined during one appointment. To find out more information about these programs, you can call the Manchester office of the Community Action Agency at 647-4470. If you are homebound and unable to visit the CAA office, call CAA to arrange a home interview or an interview over the telephone.
