Welcome to Smyth Road School!
Welcome to Smyth Road School!! Smyth Road is a small neighborhood elementary school located in the North end of Manchester tucked in off Smyth Road behind McIntyre Ski Area. We are a kindergarten through grade five school, and we are also home to four developmental preschool classrooms and three special needs classrooms. Approximately 400 students come to Smyth Road School each day!
At Smyth Road, we take pride in our school. Students are encouraged to show respect for themselves and towards others. We follow a responsive classroom model and have a peer mediator program to assist students when needed. We are constantly on the look out for students who are S.T.A.R.S. ( S tudents T hat A re R eally S uper!) Each Friday, S.T.A.R. students will be recognized and announced over the intercom for their positive behavior and respectful ways.
We are excited to be one of the three pilot schools in Manchester participating in the program Picturing Writing, a comprehensive art and literature based writing program created by UNH professor, Beth Olshansky. Significant reading and writing achievement gains have been shown in both California and NH for children participating in this writing program. For more information, see their website: www.picturingwriting.org
We are very proud of our active P.T.O. here at Smyth Road! Parents are seen working here in the school on a daily basis, and they are always organizing and coordinating programs for families to attend together. Parents help with the publishing of student books, sponsor many fundraising efforts, and organize special activities. The P.T.O. members also generously donate their time towards running the school store on Tuesday mornings and popping popcorn every Wednesday morning. In addition, they meet each month and would always welcome new members!
One of our most important goals is to maintain strong communication between school and home. Each year families are given a handbook outlining all the policies and procedures at Smyth Road School. In addition, students receive a large communication envelope that goes home every Wednesday. These envelopes will contain important notices about events and activities going on at school.
Finally, our goal at Smyth Road is to challenge and encourage our students so that they will become life long learners and responsible, young citizens. We look forward to a wonderful school year ahead!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Briggs
