LEAP, the Manchester School District's gifted and talented program, will
host a workshop for those interested in exploring the topic of motivating
and sustaining a child's academic potential Dec. 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. in the cafeteria of West High School.
The program will feature a presentation from Leann Nickelson, a noted
expert on student motivation, entitled "Good Brain, Great Brain: A
Strategy for Motivating and Sustaining a Child's Academic Potential."
The workshop is designed to motivate all students to reach their full
academic potential - - not just students identified as gifted and
talented, according to Troi Hopkins, coordinator of the gifted and talent
program. Teachers attending will earn professional development credits.
LEAP is an acronym for Learners with Exceptional Academic, Artistic,
Altruistic Potential. The LEAP program has been in existence for 4 years
in the school district. Questions about the program may be directed to
Hopkins or Linda Mandra at 624-6300 (x140).
