Kathleen Mirabile, the chair of Central High School’s social studies department, has been named the country’s “Outstanding Teacher of American History” by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
“We have known for a long time that Kathy Mirabile is second to none. This award just confirms it, “according to John Rist, Central’s principal.
“Kathy is the consummate professional who does what every good teacher knows how to do, and that is to earn the respect of her students by making them work hard while having fun learning,” he said.
The nationwide award honors notable, full-time middle school or high school American history teachers in public, private, and parochial schools .
Each year, DAR chapters across the country select a local American history teacher to honor. Local honorees compete at the state level, and a national winner is chosen from among the state honorees.
Mirabile has taught in the district for over 30 years.
The DAR is a civic organization dedicated to fostering interest in American history.
