2007 - 2008 PTG BOARD

President Karen Munt
Vice President Jen Valente
Secretary Cheryl Wood
Treasurer Tracey Chapdelaine
Fund Raiser Coordinator Nicole Rivers
Volunteer Coordinators Betsy Gay and Nancy Byko
Donation Coordinator Melinda Asprey
Sub-commitee Coordinator TBA

Welcome to the PTG!

The PTG or, Parent Teacher Group, is an organization committed to strengthening the bond between home and school.  Planning fund raising events, holding raffles, participating in bake sales and volunteering a much needed “pair of hands” are just a small part of being involved in your child’s school.  There are many additional ways you can show YOUR child how important the school community is to YOU, thereby building a stronger sense of the importance of school and community within your child.

Attending and being actively involved at monthly PTG meetings shows your child, in a tangible way, how important education, community, and teamwork are to you and your child’s success at school.  Your thoughts and ideas are always welcomed and highly encouraged so that we may collectively better serve the Parker- Varney Elementary School community.

The following is a guide to a typical PTG meeting with the hope that it will help you to be an informed participant in the process:

  • Please sign in - we need to have a written record of who was in attendance for our meeting minutes.
  • Please read over the previous minutes - we may be covering information that was shared at the last meeting.
  • Please take a look at the treasurer’s report - this shows how much money is collected paid out and what remains to support projects, purchase supplies and other items.
  • Take a look at the agenda - this is a roadmap to tonight’s meeting.
  • REMEMBER - if anything is presented for a vote…ALL voices matter!  Everyone in attendance has the right to be heard and to vote.
  • If, during a discussion, you would like to share a thought or idea, please do!  You may have a new perspective or idea that could take the discussion in another direction that may ultimately lead to great things!
  • At the end of the meeting, there is an open forum, this is YOUR opportunity to share any additional thoughts, opinions, ideas or information you may have about any topic concerning you!

Most importantly, this is YOUR meeting.  The PTG board is here to moderate.  We welcome your involvement and want to thank you for taking the time to come tonight and be an active part of the Parker-Varney community.

Scrip

Gift Card Fundraiser

Major Retailers Want To Give Our School Money!

Dear Parker Varney Parents, Family, Friends, and Staff :

We’re pleased to share some exciting news about a new fundraising program for our organization.  It’s called “scrip”, and it’s the fundraising program that works while you shop.

Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money” – in other words, scrip is gift certificates from national and local  retailers.  They’re the same gift certificates that you buy  at the store.  Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including JCPenney, The Gap, Shell, Pizza Hut, Olive Garden and many, many others.

You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money.

It’s simple -- scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our organization at a discount.  Member families like yours buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our school keeps the difference as revenue.  And scrip is exciting, because everybody wins:

The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business… You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling… Our school gets a regular source of revenue.

The beauty of scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for our school without spending a single additional penny.  Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program!  And scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out.

The Parker-Varney scrip program promises to be a simple and effective fundraising program.  Thanks for your support, and we’ll see you at our one of our meetings!

* We will be ordering approximately two times a month prior to the holidays - Please send in the form to your child's teacher at any point or bring it to any PTG meeting ! *
