PTG Notes

Meeting:  November 16, 2006

SecretaryÕs Report:

            Minutes for October 18th meeting were available, reviewed and accepted.

 

Treasurers Report:

á       Financial report was available, reviewed and accepted. 

á       Have $13239.04 funds available.

á       Monies are available from the bakesale for the 4th and 5th grades.

á      Stage fund money available

á       Fundraiser Update: All items are in and passed out to students.  As of the meeting minimal returns.  Fundraiser collected $18313.00, paid out $10923.00, with a profit of $7219.

 

Boxtops for Education:

Submitted 2827 labels for a total of $291.70 which will be spent to the school in the spring. 

December contest will be a counting contest of what's in the jar (goldfish, marbles, etc).  Stepahnie Berard will be making a flyer for this.  Contact Stephanie at the PTG website with ideas and or questions,  (Parker_Varney_PTG@yahoo.com).

 

Craft Fair Update:

As of the meeting people were still calling for booths.  School will open at 7 am for set up.  Fair itself will run from 9 am to 3 pm.  As of now nine vendors are confirmed w/ more possibles for a toal of fifteen vendors on site.  Donations include donuts, muffins, coffe and soda.  Also available that day will be Grandslam Pizza.

 

Lunch with Santa set for December 2nd 11am - 2pm:

á       4th grade parent gift center will be open during event.

á       Plenty of crafts available from yearÕs past to do.  Also Melinda Asprey will once again be making gingermen for decorating.  Also children are encouraged to write their letters to Santa at he event.

á       Careful attention will be paid to providing a safe environment for all (latex and peanut free sites will be available).

á       2nd and 3rd Grades will have their bake sales.  All Bakesale items must be peanut free and individaully wraped.  Remember healthy alternatives can be donated.

á       fifteen volunteers are scheduled for the event.  Still need a few more.  Looking for cooks to man the grills. 

á       Donations for raffles are coming in; some of the larger items include a razor scooter, small computer, computer accessories, and a weekend getaway to New York.  If you have anything to donate, contact Melinda Asprey at the PTG web address.

á       Santa and reindeer food are all set for the event.

á       Entertainment will be in the form of live Christmas music provide by the Jazz Combo form Soughean High School.

 

Title I Heidi Rivard:

á       In the process of completing end of trimester assessments with the students.  New tests to match math curriclum have been added.  Also testing reading components.  Each student invloved will get a progress report w/ expectations for what to do next. 

á       Grades 3 and 4 students and parents are invited to attend a talk on Success for Reading and Writing.  Information will be available on this shortly.

á       A workshop for K-1st grade students is happening right now.  In 2007 other grades will have their.  Teachers e welcome to atend.

 

Sub-Committee Chairperson / past PTG President- Christine Sullivan: Submissions

for the second student spotlight in the PV pulse were passed around and voted on by those present.   Also available was a preview of this month's PV Pulse.   In the process of editing this month's issue at the time of the meeting.

á       The PV Pulse was created as another avenue to communicate w/all persons involved w/ Parker Varney.  The PV Pulse is tied in with Title I and the schools' ESL program to promote strong reading and writing skills for all students. 

á       All PTG board members will write a piece for the pulse at some point in the year.

á       Would like to encorporate a section for letters from parents.  The Pulse would like to have information on other cultures and such .

á       Teachers and Staff; deadlines must be met.  If your information is not present prior to deadline, it won't go into the pluse.  Kelly Jobel will backup the grade level news.

á       Fifth graders will act as newsgetters.

á       Want to continue the PV Pulse for many years.  At end of ech school year, we will be looking for a fouth graders parent to take over the editorship for the following year.

á       Feedback fro last months' PV Pulse issue was very postiive.  Alicia Ladd, last month's student spotlight winner was very proud.  Phot is hanging near office.

á       Congratulations to Mrs. Gay for this monthÕs Teacher Spotlight recipient and to Aaron Welch, the 4th Grader chosen to be this month's student in the spotlight.

 

Vice Principal Coughlin:

á       The Parker Varney community raised $1289.63 for the Officer Briggs memorial fund.  A big thank you to the students, parents, teachers and staff of Parker Varney for all the donations. 

á       The Parker Varney School is the recipient of a $500.00 grant from the Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance Program.  This money will be used to enchance the writing program theme " Explore and Discover".

           

Principal Callanan:

á       Parks and Recreation Department will be at Parker Varney soon to look at the playground equipment and give advice and cost assessment to fix the playground.  We have lots of photos of the playground and equipment for them to look at. 

á       Daily schedules throughout the school are back to normal after NECAP testing.  This will change now that we are in the Holiday season.

á       You may have noticed the picnic table in the front courtyard chained to the flag pole.  This table is a gift from myself and Vice Principal Coughlin as a way of saying thank you to the teaching staff for all their hard work and dedication thoughout the school year. 

á       Will be having another wreath sale this year.

 

Open Forum: 

á       Paul Dwyer will contact Granite State Beverages and BJ's Wholesalers for donations.

á       Melinda Aspray has old (brand new) Red Sox Tee Shirts from the year they won the Worls Series that she wants to donate.

á       Barnes and Nobel reading night on November 16th from 6 to 7 pm.  Four readers form the Parker Vareny Staff will read stories to the kids.  All kids are encourage to wear their pajamas.  This years readers include Mr. Callanan, Miss Coughlin, Mrs Rivard and a guest teacher from 5th grade.  The scholl gets a percentage of money for all books purchased from PV parents and students during the event.

á       Verizon Wireless may donate used cell phones to the school. 

á       For the benefit of all students, please make that during all school events, there is a peanut free and laytex free environment.
