Accelerated Reader (AR) is a program that provides teachers and students with a great opportunity to promote reading at home and in the classroom. Students choose a book to read or have read to them. Once they have completed the book, they take a short multiple choice quiz on a school computer. The computer shows the student how many questions were answered correctly and prints out a report sheet for the teacher. Students are awarded Accelerated Reader points for the correct answers.

In our school's library, each book that has an Accelerated Reader quiz is marked with a purple sticker on the binding. This lets students know that they can take an AR Quiz on the book once they have finished reading the book. There are quizzes available for hundreds of books in all grade levels, and each classroom is equipped with an Accelerated Reader quiz book list.

The students and classroom teachers are currently busy setting Accelerated Reader goals for the months of September and October. Please ask your child about his or her goal and encourage him or her to read at home. There is a AR Quiz list located on this Website and there is also a copy available at the West Side Library!
