"Hop on the Health Train"

There are three Health teachers servicing Northwest Elementary School this year. The full-time Health teacher is Miss Caron (until November 8th; then she'll become Mrs. Bouchard!) On Wednesdays, the Health teacher from Smyth Road School, Mrs. Lamothe, comes to Northwest and teaches Mrs. Carrier's fifth grade, Mrs. Sullivan's fourth grade, Mrs. St. Clair's third grade, Mrs. Bergeron's second grade, and Ms. Bouchard's first grade. On Fridays, the Health teacher from Parker Varney School, Mrs. Colburn, spends half of the day at Northwest. She teaches Ms. Cicirelli's first grade, Mrs. Roukey's kindergarten class, and Ms. Young's kindergarten class. Health lessons for the year in every grade level encourage making responsible choices in all areas of their daily lives. More specific to their health, students will examine the need for responsible choices in the areas of foods and drinks, exercise and rest , personal hygiene, and safety. In addition to this focus, fourth graders will learn about ten body systems. Fifth graders will be involved in two additional programs. The first is called "No Butts About It" sponsored by Breath New Hampshire and the second is called Media Smart sponsored by Media Power Youth. Each month, beginning in October, students will be encouraged to participate in the 10 Healthy Choices challenge. Students will be given a log to keep at home during the month. As they make healthy choices in the areas of foods/drinks, exercise/rest, hygiene, and safety, they write their healthy choice on the log (one per day only please). Students who complete the log and return the log signed by an adult will receive a prize. Have a great and HEALTHY year!
