Sports & Entertainment Marketing is a thriving business.
It’s time to put your passion and love of the game to work. Marketing is
very visible and touches everyone. In fact, it is difficult to imagine
contemporary life without marketing. For example, in the morning when you
dress for school, you put on your Levi jeans, Nike shoes and your American
Eagle T-shirt. Before you even leave the house you look at the morning
newspaper. One of the local advertisements catches your attention and you
make plans to go to the mall after school. At the mall there are many window
displays that entice you to enter the retail stores. Marketing, from a
company’s point of view, includes all the activities that must occur to
form a partnership/exchange between buyers and sellers.
In addition to classroom activities, DECA, an association
of marketing students, is a part of your marketing experience. You will
learn to compete with other marketing students for the State DECA Competition.
Several marketing students from MST have gone on to compete at the national
level, some even becoming national winners. These winning DECA students
have traveled to Orlando, Detroit, Los Angeles and St. Louis to compete
with thousands of DECA students across the U.S. and Canada.
An added bonus for marketing students is the opportunity
to get high school credits for your job through the MST cooperative work
experience program. Sports & Entertainment Marketing I and II students
also have the opportunity to receive three college credits. In addition,
scholarships available for DECA members are numerous.
