In 2003 Makin' It Happen Coalition (MIH) sponsored their first Makin It Happen's Drug Free Challenge. MIH is back this year and looking forward to another fun-filled challenging event.
MIH is a non-profit youth serving organization that’s mission is to promote healthy choices for youth and families in the Manchester area and to prevent alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. Therefore, Makin It Happen Coalition hosts the annual "Drug Free Challenge". This year, like last year, will include a variety of questions that focus on the student's knowledge of Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drugs (ATODs).
The "Drug Free Challenge" features five students from each of the local middle schools, Hillside, McLaughlin, Parkside, Southside, and Saint Joseph's Junior High. Five students from each middle school are selected to participate in the show (2 on stage and 3 for alternates/support).
The show is filmed during National Red Ribbon Week and aired on MCTV in November in recognition of The Great American Smoke-out. The American Cancer Society (ACS) holds the Great American Smoke-out each November to help smokers quit cigarettes for at least one day, in hopes they will quit forever
For the past five years Hillside has won the jeopardy challenge adding trophies to Hillside's trophy case.
This year's winning team: Ed Denese, Sam Friedman-Cowan, Heidi Harris, Anthony Larocca, Michi Tassey
