Attendance Policy

In order for a child to receive the maximum benefit from classroom and instructional participation, it is important that a child attend school regularly. If a student is to be absent for any reason, please call the school by 9:00 AM or send a note with a sibling or another person. If your child is absent, a note stating the reason for the absence is required. For your convenience, you may leave a message on our answering machine between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. This is a School Board Policy that is meant to protect your child.

If your child is tardy, he/she must report to the office stating the reason for the tardiness before being admitted to class. Tardiness can be disruptive to the classroom and also have an adverse effect on your child's educational progress.

If a child is present it is expected that he/she is well enough to participate in classes, physical education, and outdoor recess. If an illness or other circumstances prevent participation in these activities, a doctor's note will be necessary.

Dismissal

Students who walk home from school will be dismissed from the front door. Students should be careful, watch for traffic, and stay together. No one should talk to or accept rides from strangers. Students who will be picked up by car need to bring a note to school stating that they will be in car patrol. This note will suffice for the remainder of the year. Car patrol students will be dismissed from the gym. Parents are asked to park in the lot and come into the gym to pick up their child. Kindergarten students will be dismissed for car patrol from the kindergarten exit. Please notify your child's teacher in advance and in writing if there is to be a change in your child's regular mode of transportation. This policy is for your child's protection.

Early Dismissal

If a child is to be dismissed early, he/she should bring a note from a parent to his/her teacher on the morning of the dismissal. The not should state the reason for the early dismissal and the time. Your child will be waiting in the office. Parents must sign the child out at the main office. When possible, medical and dental appointments should be made outside of school hours.

A child will be released only to the parents, unless the school has been notified IN WRITING by the parents that they have granted permission for someone else to pick up their youngster . Relatives or friends who pick up students in lieu of parents, should provide a photo identification when signing out the child. This is in the best interest of your child so that no unauthorized person will pick him/her up.

Telephone requests to dismiss children should be kept to a minimum. This is in the best interest of your children so that no unauthorized person will pick them up.

Emergency Dismissal Procedures

A school emergency dismissal will be used if it becomes necessary to send students home before our normal dismissal time. In the event of early dismissal, information will be provided to local radio and television stations.

Please DO NOT CALL school on stormy days to inquire about early dismissals or afternoon kindergarten cancellations. Please listen to local radio and television stations for announcements. Our phone line is needed to make last minute adjustments if an early dismissal is called. Parents should develop a prearranged plan for their children in the event of an early dismissal to ensure the safety of their children.

Your understanding and cooperation is most appreciated in this matter.

School Cancellations/Delayed Opening

The Superintendent will notify the local radio and telvision stations between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m. in the event of a school cancellation or a delayed opening. See: WMUR.
