SEPTEMBER 2008

Welcome to Fourth Grade.  We look forward to a very productive year.  Hopefully by now your child is getting into the daily routine of a fourth grader.  It is a very busy day.  There is much material to be covered.  Every fourth grader will soon be given an assignment book.  Once it has been received, we will teach the students how to use this book to organize their homework assignments.  We will also use this book as a means of communication.  We ask that you check this book on a daily basis.

Your child should be developing home study skills this year.  You can help by providing a quiet time and location for your child to complete homework and reading. As you are aware, the Manchester School District has purchased the Everyday Math program.  A critical component within this math program is nightly homework.  We also assign spelling and reading homework.  You can expect your child to have approximately 45 minutes of homework each night.

Our fourth graders will be participating in a district wide reading and math test in October.  Please make sure your child has a good breakfast and is well rested.

We have many fun activities planned for the year.  We will send home notices periodically.  Be on the lookout.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Buzzell
