The Second Grade Team
Ms. Bowen, Mrs. Folsom, Mrs. Perry, Mrs. Pollock and Miss Rivet

As a team, we work very hard to make our expectations and goals consistent throughout our classrooms. All second grade students will be held to high standards while being exposed to different types of instruction. We work hard and have fun and we do our best to meet each second graders' important and unique needs.

In Language Arts and Reading, we will be using a variety of literature, different genres, as well as Fundationsand Leveled/Guided Readers.

In Math, we are reviewing all addition and subtraction facts up to 20, doubles and turnaround facts (4+4, 5+5, etc.), fact families, basic computation, money, time and problem solving skills. As you know, this is our first year using Everyday Mathematics. You can find a lot of useful and interesting information, as well as the Everyday Mathematics games online at emgames.com (your child will receive a login code and password from his/her classroom teacher).

Our Science work through the year will include concepts such as Light and Sound, Interactions of Living Things, Ocean and Seashore Life, and Animal Habitats.

Social Studies units will focus on the idea of communities and will be taught within a specific Social Studies text as well as in the context of Reading and Language Arts lessons.
