Dear Parents and/or Guardian,

Welcome to second grade at Gossler Park Elementary School.  I hope you all enjoyed the summer and got a chance to relax.  I am looking forward to a fun filled school year with a lot of new learning experiences.  This is my first year teaching second grade and I am extremely excited.  I have taught kindergarten and third grade and I was also a certified instructor for one year. I stayed home for a year with my three-year-old daughter when she was born.  My husband and I have been married for 5 years and he is very supportive of me teaching second grade.

I want to take this opportunity to explain a few important things to you.  Every Wednesday your child will bring home an envelope with completed work from the week and some school notices.  Please look over these papers with your child, sign the envelope, and return to school on Thursday.  It is important to spend some quality time browsing through your child’s accomplishments and being aware of our class and school activities.

Homework will be given Monday through Thursday.  Any unfinished classwork becomes homework, too.  Your student will be given one agenda notebook and is expected to write their assignments in it everyday.  PLEASE check the agenda on a daily basis and sign the agenda every night when the work is completed.  I may also use this notebook as a form of communication between home and school.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

It is essential for your child to have a backpack or bag to bring to and from school everyday.  This will help get things back and forth safely and efficiently.  Also, if you could donate a box of tissues this will help us all get through the cold season.

On the first day of school the students and I developed the class rules and discussed the consequences for inappropriate or unacceptable behavior.  The children know that our focus is to work as a team or as I call it a FAMILY.  This focus will ensure everyone the respect they deserve and the chance to learn the most they can in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment.  The consequences for inappropriate behavior are five or ten minutes taken away from recess, miss the whole recess, miss free choice, or a call home and be sent to the principal’s office.  On the flip side I am always giving the children positive reinforcement.  For example, they can earn marbles toward a class prize, receive Gator coupons, and earn extra time on computers or playing with board games.

Please feel free to call before or after school at 624-6327 or write me a note if you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year.  Thank you for your cooperation and I am looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Amy Woloski
