Welcome to Gossler Park School. I am looking forward to enjoying your child in third grade. Here are some of the things that will be going on in our room.
Language Arts:
Grade three has six themes for the year. They are: Oink, Oink, Oink, Community Ties, Disaster, What's Cooking, Weather Watch and What a Day. We also work hard on our writing skills. Book reports will be assigned each month. Instructions and due dates will be sent home at the beginning of each month.
Science and Social Studies:
Science and social studies will also tie in with the themes as much as possible. We study Life Cycles, Nutrition, Sun, Moon & Earth, Weather & Water. In Social Studies we study Kids Voting, Map Skills and Community.
Math:
We will learn to do many important things in Math this year. We will expand on learned skills and also add multiplication and division to our skills.
Homework:
Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and may also consist of unfinished class work, specific homework assignments or special projects to be completed at home. There may also be Family Homework to go along with our Language Arts themes. Please take the time to ask your child on a daily basis if he/she has any homework. Check those backpacks! This will help them become more responsible about completing and returning assignments and avoid missing recess. Agendas are provided to each student and should be signed by a parent and returned daily.
Wednesday Envelopes:
Every Wednesday your child will bring home an envelope with work from the week and any notices. Please review these papers with your child and sign and return the envelope on Thursday. This will keep you informed as to what your child is doing in school.
Special Requests:
Please make sure your child has a backpack or bag to bring to and from school each day. This will help in getting important things back and forth easier. Also, please send in a box of tissues with your child. If each child brings in one box, we should have enough to get us through the cold and sniffles season.
Communication:
Please feel free to call or write a note to me if you have any questions or concerns at any time this year. I will do the same. I look forward to meeting you! By working together we can help your child have a pleasant and successful year in third grade. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Anita Williamson
