Assistant Principal’s Message
The teachers and staff at Gossler Park School continue to work hard to improve the instruction and achievement levels of our students. Many staff members attend workshops, take courses, and engage in professional reading and discussions to increase their knowledge and refine their skills as teachers. Our goal is to improve student learning.
Last May we developed a Mission Statement for Gossler Park School that has provided us with a focus and direction for the current school year. The first two parts of our Mission Statement help define our responsibilities to our students:
- It is our mission to promote continuous academic achievement through a socially responsible, disciplined environment.
- It is our mission to impart a mutually respectful atmosphere among students and staff which will result in the development of core human values.
The final part, however, defines the shared role we have with the parents and families of our students:
- It is our mission to enable each child, with the support of his or her family, to reach their full potential.
As we progress through the school year, we are reminded of the importance of our roles as we work together to accomplish our mission. We are asking the parents and guardians of Gossler Park students to support our efforts. Here are a few suggestions:
- Remember that school starts at 8:35 AM and ends at 2:35 PM. Help your child to arrive on time and attend school every day, for the whole day. We can’t teach children who are not here.
- Provide students with a healthy breakfast and snacks for the day. There is a breakfast program available for students each morning that runs from 8:05 – 8:20 AM. Hungry students don’t perform well at school.
- Dress students properly for the temperature and weather conditions. During the cold weather months children should have warm coats or jackets, hats, mittens or gloves. Students who wear boots to school should also bring shoes or sneakers to change into once they are inside the building.
- Check student bags or backpacks for notices and homework assignments on a daily basis. This will help students to know you are interested in the things they are doing at school.
- Communicate regularly with your child’s teacher. Although teachers are not available to speak with parents when students enter the building, there are times during the day when they would be happy to respond to a note or phone call message.
Thank you in advance for your efforts. Together, we know we can make a difference for all students!
