Hello Parents!

I'm looking forward to an exciting year of learning with the children. The days will be filled with reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Hands-on and cooperative activities will be a regular part of their days. Additionally, the children will have classes in Music, Art, PE, Library, and Health. Sneakers are required for PE, and the girls should wear shorts or pants. Library books must be returned each week on the day the children visit the library.

Each day will begin with a Morning Meeting which is intended to help develop community within the classroom. Small reading groups, which target the needs of individual students, will provide your child with the skills and strategies necessary for success. I love reading and make every effort to read to the children daily. There will be homework Monday through Thursday, and it should be returned the following day. The children should also be reading 20 minutes each night and working on the math facts.

Envelopes are sent home every Wednesday. Included in the envelopes are weekly papers and notices. The envelope should be signed and returned on Thursday.

Opportunities for learning surround us every day. Embrace these opportunities! Read to your child. Talk with your child about what they see around them. Encourage your child to count money or change, count with them by 2, 3, 5, and 10, tell them a word problem and have them solve it, practice the addition and subtraction facts. All of these activities will benefit your child immensely.

I love teaching and learning, and I look forward to the challenges that await me in the year ahead. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please send in a note or call. I will get back to you.

Best regards,

Deb Miller
