Email Acceptance Procedure

Because of the amount of spam that is being sent to the Manchester School District we have had to implement the following two procedures regarding email acceptance.

  1. The Manchester School District email server will not accept connections from email servers using dynamic IP addresses. These are normally used for home Internet connections. Home Internet connections using their Internet service providers email service will not be affected by this procedure. Any business or organizations using a static IP address for their email server will not be affected by this procedure. If you are using a dynamic IP address for a legitimate email server you should contact your Internet service provider. If you are using a static IP address for your email server and it is misidentified by the Manchester School District as a dynamic address please use the contact information below to correct the problem.


  2. The Manchester School District email server will not accept connections from email servers that do not have a reverse DNS entry for the IP address of the server. The vast majority of these unknown addresses have been hijacked by spammers. If you have a legitimate email server that does not have a reverse DNS entry for its IP address you should contact your Internet service provider and they can quickly correct this. You should also have your Internet service provider do a forward DNS entry and an SPF record on the IP address because many organizations have or will be implementing much more restrictive procedures.

These procedures are not intended to block legitimate email and are only being put into place because of the magnitude of this problem. On an average business day the Manchester School District will receive over 60,000 email messages and over 95% of them are spam.
