Manchester is classified as a residential/industrial city with a diverse population of approximately 106,000 people.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

Of the 20 credits required for graduation, 13 must be distributed as follows: 4 English, 2 ½ Social Studies (1 US History, ½ Government, ½ Economics), 2 Math, 2 Science (1 Physical, 1 Biological), 1 Physical Education, ½ Fine Arts (Music, Art, Band, Chorus & some Family and Consumer Science courses), ½ Computer Education, ½ Health Education.

One half credit is assigned to a class meeting one period daily for 1 semester; 1 credit is assigned to a class meeting 1 period daily for 1 year; 1½ credits are assigned to a class meeting 1 period daily plus 2 weekly labs for 1 year; 2 credits are assigned to a class meeting two periods daily for one year.

SCHOOL YEAR:

Grades are issued 4 times a year at approximate intervals of 9 weeks. Class periods are 45 minutes in length.

Central is a comprehensive public high school. Students may select courses from among the various disciplines. Central also offers Special Education as well as an English Speakers of Other Languages (ELL) programs.

Class rank is computed at mid-year and again from final grades in all credit courses. Each student has two ranks one for unweighted grades and one for weighted grades. Rank in class and honors are determined at the end of the seventh semester for the senior class. The WEIGHTED class rank is the OFFICIAL CLASS RANK which determines class standing and honors.
