World Languages Department

It is the philosophy of the World Language Department of Manchester Central High School that: While allowing for individual differences among teachers and teaching approaches,we create an accepting learning atmosphere where open communication in the target language will allow and encourage students, over a period of years, to progressively improve their understanding and acceptance of communication in languages other than English, to gain an understanding of other cultures andto positively connect with other disciplines. We, the faculty, believe that students need to develop insight into the nature of language and culture, and to participate in the various multilingual communities at home, on campus, in the community and around the world.

National World Language Honor Society

Central High School is one of many schools nationally, that seek to recognize their academically talented language students. Nomination for membership in this society can be gained by earning three consecutive semesters of "A" work in their targeted language as well as earning no less than "C+"grades in all other subjects.

Special Opportunities

  1. Our ongoing student exchange program with the Neustadt Germany is a vital part of the German program. Each year more and more Central Students take advantage of the opportunity to experience real everyday German life, and use their classroom German to communicate with people during their three week home stay in Germany. This opportunity enhances the total German experience. Also each September a group of German students come to Central to learn about everyday American life as well. We are always looking for families who are willing to host these families while they are here for their three week experience.. If you are interested in having your child participate, wish to host a German student or merely wish to get more information please contact me at Cenral HS (603) 624-6363 or by e-mail
  2. Each year the opportunity is available for Central students to take advantage of European travel opportunities. Both the Spanish and French departments offer 7 to 10 day full service tours which visit several targeted cities and/or countries. All tours are accompanied by Central high school teachers and staff. Please note that these tours are not school sponsored activities, but individually contracted tours by the teachers leading these culturally enhancing opportunities. Each year's offerings are publicized on posters at Central HS. More detailed information may be obtained by contacting the teacher(s) responsible for the organization of the tour.
