English Department

The English Department offers a language arts program which includes core and elective phases. The core program of freshman and sophomore years stresses the fundamental skills of reading, writing, thinking, listening, and speaking. All juniors and seniors -- except those taking American Studies, British Authors Seminar, World Literature, Reading/Writing in U.S. History -- must select one literature and one writing course each semester.

The English Department Summer Reading List for Summer 2008 is available in pdf format.

Writing Help to be Offered by NEHS

Central's Grace Metalious Chapter of the National English Honor Society is embarking on a service project to benefit Central High School.

Beginning in January, members will be available during the school day in the McIninch Library to offer help to students in writing. This Writing Workshop is designed to help students succeed in class and, ultimately, raise test scores.

Students may choose to avail themselves of this opportunity, or they may be referred by a teacher.
