- Government
- This unit lets the
students explore different types of leadership structures
while understanding the economic, military and political
ramifications of different styles of government.
- Anthropology
- This unit explores
the underling values of a society. It examines symbols,
values, norms and their affect on people.
- The Game
- This part introduces
the students to the concept of revisionist history. They
will record their version of history based on the game.
The students are put into a game against their fellow
classmates. They soon put to use all the political,
economic and military theories that they have learned
while they try to maintain their civilization from seven
other opponents.
- Culture
- Here we examine the
less destructive side of humans. We explore humanity's
greatest achievements and have a debate. The class also
exams art, music, holidays, money and poetry and then
they build pieces that represents their society and
culture.
- Mythology
- We examine the role
that heroes and myths play in uniting a society. We also
examine influential people in our own world. The students
then create their own myths based on the game. It also
reflects the values of their culture.
- Time
Capsules
- How will your society
be remembered in 2000 years?
- History
Revisited
- We look at different
points of view in history and then we see how history is
manipulated to serve other people. The students then try
to manipulate their game history to get a better
grade.
- Nature of
Man
- The class examines
the nature of man.
- Leadership and Group
Work
- Creative thinking and
group problem solving.
- The Future of
Man
- What is in store for
the future?
- The Final
- A large comprehensive
report is due at the end of class that examines each
student's history and culture. These projects range in
size from 30-100 pages. All the projects that they have
been working on are fused together in an end of the year
portfolio. The students also give a 45-minute oral
report.
