Educational Philosophy
The greatest strength of a democracy lies in an educated citizenry. The greatest strength of an education lies in its ability to provide students with the skills to achieve their potential. A truly good eduaction is comprehensive: it includes broadening the intellect to understand and appreciate the rapidly changing world around us, developing the skills necessary for achieving post-secondary goals, fostering attitudes of tolerance, sensitivity, and respect concerning individual rights and differences in our multicultural society. We at Manchester High School Central realize the value of such principles and are committed to them.
The student body at Central High School has become increasingly diverse, incorporating a broad spectrum of socio-economic, cultural, and educational interests and goals. Therefore, our evolving curriculum attempts to provide experiences consistent with the individual student's interests, needs, and abolities. These learning activities encourage progressive physical, emotional, intellectual, aesthetic, and social development. Through the varied academic and extra-curricular activities, students become aware of their rights and privileges and learn to accept their responsibilities in a democratic society.
Our educational structure provides a comprehensive curriculum through which students are afforded the opportunities to participate in the decision-making process. Students are encouraged to develop the self-confidence necessary to assist them continuing their education, entering the work force, or pursuing leisure activities. Ideally, Central High School provides each student with a positive experience which will encourage a lifelong appreciation of learning.
The total process of education is a responsibility shared with home, community, religious institutions, and other civic and social agencies. Recognizing the increased stress placed upon students in our ever changing world, the school strives to work cooperatively through increased contact and interaction with these groups to fulfill our mutual responsibility.
