The Manchester High School Central Alumni Network recently held a banquet to celebrate the 160th Birthday of Central High. This banquet highlighted the induction of new members to the School's Hall of Fame, composed of graduates who have distinguished themselves in various fields, including athletics.

Fourteen candidates were inducted into the Hall as part of the Banquet festivities. Hall of Fame inductees included:

J. Russell Muirhead, professor of Government at Harvard and
Attorney Basilios E. Tsingos, both of whom were Rhodes Scholars
Arthur O. Tzianabos, professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School
Dr. James C. Vailas, prominent Orthopedic Surgeon associated with professional sports teams
Mark A. Letendre, Director of Health Services for Major League Baseball Umpires
Dr. Menelaos A. Aliapoulios, who held Professorships at the U Mass Medical School as well as the Harvard Medical School
Adam Sandler, well-known movie star
John A. King, former State Senator and prominent educator
Plato L. Canotas, lifetime supporter of Central and longtime community servant
The late Rogers Blood, military hero killed in action in World War II.

In Athletics, the following all-around athletic standouts were inducted:

Robert G. Durand of Central and the University of New Hampshire
The late Richard A. Zielinski of Central and St. Anselm
Lisa Russell of Central and the U.S. Military Academy
Mary G. Larkin Quinn of Central and Stonehill College.

The Manchester High School Central Alumni Network grew out of the year long Sesquicentennial Celebration (1995 - 1996 school year). The success of the Grand Banquet, attended by over one thousand, and the response to the initiation of a Hall of Fame, was extremely encouraging to some form of continuance. Since then, three additional Hall of Fame and reunion Banquets have been held affording the Central High Community an opportunity to celebrate the rich traditions of Central, and to take pride in the accomplishments of some of it's most distinguished graduates.

The Central Alumni Network is essentially a support group. As a result of our activities, we have raised sufficient funds to make generous contributions to the Alumni Scholarship Fund; to pay for the installation of the new scoreboard in the gym; to support the installation of a granite patio in front of the war memorials in the Central courtyard (the new Korean and Vietnam memorials were erected during the Sesquicentennial); and to contribute to the Manchester Oval at the Gatsas Athletic Center at Livingston Park, and to support the Library. Continuing support of our efforts to enhance the life of students at Central is greatly appreciated.
