QUILT CLUB
The Quilt Club provides fifteen 4th &
5th graders the hands-on experience of learning basic sewing skills.
Threading a needle and tying a knot can be challenging. While working
with squares and triangles the students choose colors of their choice
and create a pattern to make a pot holder. One pot holder can take up
to 8 weeks to complete since there are many steps from start to
finish. In the end students are proud of their work and are ready to
tackle something more difficult. In the past, lap quilts,
appliqué mats, pillows, and handbags have been completed.
Connecting with the children in a whole
different way, Mrs. Gagne, our Kindergarten Teacher and Quilt
Instructor, loves to listen to the students' chatter. Boys and girls
alike, socialize, and share stories.
In April projects are displayed at the
annual Beechfest.
When meetings come to an end in May, the projects are sent home along
with fabric and a pattern for those wishing to make something over
the summer.
