Student Achievement

Bakersville School staff recognize student achievement in many different ways. Discuss these achievements with your students and find out in what ways they are reaching their goals.

Wall of Fame Recognizing academic achievement is one of the most important facets of education. As such, Bakersville has arranged a Wall of Fame in the cafeteria where exemplary student work is displayed. This serves as recognition for the student whose work is on display and as a model for other students to strive for. Additionally, many classrooms have set up their own Wall of Fame to recognize individual achievement within the classroom.

Author of the Month Each month one student from every class is chosen as the author of the month. Achievements are based on various standards including best writing, most improved, or greatest effort. The authors are honored with a luncheon hosted by a teacher and a certificate along with a "published" copy of each of the author's stories.

Effort Certificates Each trimester certificates are given to students who have consistently worked diligently towards achieving their goals. While their grades represent their actual achievement, these certicates recognize the effort that is put forth by the students on a daily basis.

Caught Being Good While our overall school theme is RESPECT--for yourself, each other, and our school--each week a word is chosen to represent a secondary theme, such as courtesy or honesty. Students who are "caught" by teachers representing these themes are honored on Friday by having their name announced and receiving a small prize. In this way, the staff and students encourage each other to be mindful of all the ways we show respect every day.
