School nurses in Manchester public schools are employees of the Manchester Health Department. The Manchester Health Department is required to maintain the privacy of your child's health information. A review of the notice of health information practices is available in your school health office.

Health Records:

Health records are maintained on each student. These records are confidential and kept throughout our child's school stay. Health records include immunizations, physical exams and individual health conditions. There is also legal documentation of the care/services your child receives.

First Aid and Illness Care:

Your school nurse is here daily. The school nurse is available for accidents, medical emergencies, or when children in school become ill. Their job may require that they be out of the health office and school administrators are trained to call 911 and to handle dismissals in the nurse's absence.

Screening Programs:

Screening includes vision testing, hearing test, height, weight, BMI, scoliosis check and general health assessment.   As a Title I school, Bakersville is also eligible for Dental Health Screening and the sealants from the   Manchester Health Department Dental Program.

Medication Administration Policy:

Sometimes children need to take medication during the school day. All medications require written parental permission and a physician/health care provider written prescription.   Please contact your school nurse for the required forms or to discuss any concerns or questions with the policy.

Immunizations:

State law requires all children receive immunizations to Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis, (DPT), Polio, Mumps/Measles/Rubella, (MMR), Hepatitis B, and Varicella.(chicken pox).(HIB/preschool)   A record of the required immunizations must be provided to the school nurse. State law also requires a physical examination for first time registration in a New Hampshire School.   Manchester School District has an additional requirement of a physical examination for 6 th and 9th grade students.
