Bakersville Elementary School"Home of the Bakersville Bulldogs" |
RIF is a federal grant received by Bakersville School. This program is designed to promote literacy and encourage a love of books for children and their families. Each school year, children choose three free books to build their home libraries. These book distributions are held during a family activity. Activities have included author visits, storytellers, musicians, and craft nights among others.
RIF books are purchased with a 75% grant from the federal government. The remaining 25% ($396) of the cost must come from donations or fundraising activities. Volunteers help to keep this program running smoothly. Volunteers provide help in a number of ways: selecting books, ordering, organizing motivating family activities, and assisting with the actual book distribution.
