Principal's Message

Welcome to Bakersville School! Bakersville is a small neighborhood elementary school located in the south end of Manchester on the corner of Queen City Avenue and Elm Street. The student body is a diverse population which strengthens our appreciation of what each student offers our school community.

Our school theme is respect for ourselves and toward others. We follow a responsive classroom model and have a strong peer mediator program to assist when needed.

Our school staff has established high expectations for our students and work diligently to help students attain them. We offer a full day kindergarten program to begin our academic program early. Students are presented with a number of opportunities to achieve recognition: monthly Author’s Luncheon recognizes student authors, Caught Being Good acknowledges those students who demonstrate respect and kindness toward others, Effort certificates are awarded with report cards to those students who demonstrate exceptional effort, and our Academic Wall of Fame highlights those students who have achieved academic excellence. We are also pleased to recognize our Reading is Fundamental grant, which provides new books to students three times a year during a special event.

After school programming is offered by the 21st Century After School program and the MHRA Latchkey program. The 21st Century program is sponsored by the Manchester School District and seeks to improve academic achievement through a focus on the arts. Student programs run from immediately after school to 5:30 P.M. The MHRA Latchkey program is housed at Bakersville and provides homework help as well as crafts and activities. This program also begins immediately after school.

Our Parent Teacher Group meets one evening a month in the library. This hard working group seeks to provide opportunities for families to come together at school for special events and also to raise money for school activities.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Angela Palmer and Paula Mancuso in creating our website. Their hard work is much appreciated. We are proud of our school and encourage parents or interested community members to stop by our school and visit. If you have any questions or suggestions you are most welcome to call or e-mail.

Sincerely,
Judith M. Adams, Principal
